September 7, 2023 — Several prominent school districts in Southern California have recently made a significant stride towards enriching their literacy curriculum. Inquiry By Design, a leading provider of English and Spanish Language Arts instructional materials, has been adopted by New Los Angeles Charter Middle School (6-8) in Los Angeles, Maranatha High School (9-12) in Pasadena, and Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Dual Language Academy (7) in Placentia. This adoption further solidifies Inquiry By Design’s presence on the West Coast, following previous adoptions in Washington, Oregon, and other California school districts.
Both New Los Angeles Charter Middle School and Maranatha High School have adopted Inquiry By Design’s full core English Language Arts curriculum and will begin implementing the equitable, standards-aligned curriculum this current school year. In a unanimous decision, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District adopted Inquiry By Design’s Secondary Dual Language program for their Dual Language Academy (DLA). Inquiry By Design’s student-centered, literacy-based Secondary Dual Language program provides deep practice with essential inquiry-based work progressions (e.g. small group work, discussion, regular text marking, and writing tasks) aligned to the rigor of the Common Core State Standards.
The decision to embrace Inquiry By Design’s literacy curriculum throughout these Southern California districts comes after a rigorous selection process, demonstrating the commitment of these districts to providing high-quality education for their students. District leaders conducted thorough evaluations, including comprehensive assessments of instructional models and materials, to ensure that the curriculum aligns with their educational goals and values. The adoptions have been met with enthusiastic support from educators and administrators alike.
