Inquiry by Design (IBD) is pleased to announce the full adoption of its English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum by seven school districts for the 2026–2027 school year: Notus School District in Canyon County, ID; St. Mary’s Parish School in Menomonee Falls, WI; Jump Immersion School in East Hanover, NJ; Clovis Global Academy in Clovis, CA; Irvine Chinese Immersion Academy in Irvine, CA; Highline Public Schools in Burien, WA; and Todd County School District in Mission, SD.
Three of these districts mark a first for Inquiry by Design in their state. Notus School District, a small rural district in Idaho, is the first in the state to adopt IBD’s ELA curriculum. St. Mary’s Parish School, a private Catholic school in Wisconsin, is the state’s first adopter and intentionally sought out a curriculum built outside the standard big-box options. Jump Immersion School, a bilingual school in New Jersey, is also adopting ELA (alongside Spanish Language Arts) as the first school in the state to do so.
The adoptions span a wide range of district sizes and models. Highline Public Schools, which has used IBD’s secondary ELA curriculum since 2021, is extending its partnership with tentative plans to adopt new high school materials next year.
“This is exactly the kind of language instruction support teachers have been asking for — explicit, practical, and integrated directly into the curriculum,” said Karen Boucher, Secondary Literacy Specialist at Highline Public Schools.
Todd County School District in South Dakota, serving a student population that is 94.8% Native American, has used IBD’s middle school ELA curriculum since 2022. Irvine Chinese Immersion Academy, currently serving grades K–6, is adopting ELA with plans to expand its use through grade 8 as the school grows. Clovis Global Academy, a Spanish dual immersion school, is adopting both ELA and SLA with the intention of growing alongside IBD as the school expands toward a full K–12 program.
Inquiry by Design’s ELA curriculum is Connected by Design: reading, writing, discussion, and language development are built into every lesson so that understanding compounds instead of resetting with each new unit, and teachers don’t have to assemble the pieces themselves. The curriculum is print-first, with embedded multilingual learner supports built into the shared lesson from the start.
